When Is Wisdom Teeth Extraction Required?
  • Infection or gum disease (periodontal disease) involving the wisdom teeth.
  • Tooth decay in partially erupted wisdom teeth.
  • Cysts or tumors involving the wisdom teeth.
  • Wisdom teeth that are causing damage to neighboring teeth.
Sedation Dentistry
For Nervous Patients
We use Sedation Dentistry as medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry,” although that’s not entirely accurate. Patients are usually awake with the exception of those who are under general anaesthesia.
Dental Sedation can be helpful to calm one’s nerves in the dental chair, but it also helps in other situations. If you have overly sensitive teeth or are prone to gagging during dental operation, sedation reduces or removes those issues. If you don’t numb as easily to anaesthetic, adding sedation will help. And anyone undergoing periodontal surgery or a major dental operation will find oral sedation to be beneficial.

An impacted wisdom tooth can cause a number of problems:

  • Repeated attacks of infection in the gum surrounding the tooth. This leads to pain and swelling.
  • Food packing which causes decay in either the wisdom tooth or the tooth in front.
  • Cysts can form around the wisdom tooth if it does not come into the mouth properly. A cyst occurs when fluid fills the sack that normally surrounds a developing wisdom tooth.
Wisdom Teeth Treatment With,

Level 1: Minimal Sedation

  • Minimal sedation will help you relax, but you will likely be awake.
  • You’ll understand questions your doctor is asking and be able to answer, as well as follow directions.
  • This level of sedation is typically used when your doctor needs you to be involved in the procedure.

Level 2: Moderate Sedation

  • You will feel drowsy and may even fall asleep during the procedure.
  • You may or may not remember some of the procedure.

Level 3: Deep Sedation

For Really Nervous Patients
  • You won’t actually be unconscious, but you’ll sleep through the procedure.
  • You probably will have little or no memory of the procedure.

Why Does Wisdom Tooth Pain Occur?
The wisdom tooth is usually the last tooth to erupt into the mouth anytime after about 16 years of age. Frequently, there is not enough room to accommodate wisdom teeth and as such they do not come into the mouth normally.

When this happens, the wisdom teeth are said to be “impacted”. Wisdom teeth are usually either impacted forwards into the tooth in front or backwards into the jaw bone.
